Film Rats Club, a community–focused group, is a gathering of circa 150 cinephiles across Nigeria. The club was founded as a space for Nigerian film enthusiasts and filmmakers. Without losing sight of its mission to educate, appreciate & document cinema, Film Rats Club continues to extend its reach.  Film Rats Club, through its community–building effort, has provided an enthusiastic community that helps filmmakers and cinephiles connect with other artists and materials that aid the development of film knowledge.

Cheesemonger, the journalism arm of the club, is dedicated, solely,  to publishing in-depth interviews, critical analysis, and feature coverage of essential mainstream, art-house, and avant-garde filmmaking with a sharp focus on African cinema. Through these art-focused reviews and interviews Cheesemonger tries to spotlight the different work of Nigerian indie filmmakers with varying creative styles and voice, highlighting the somewhat unappreciated and unknown work of these Nigerian indie filmmakers.

With an acute interest in publishing in-depth interviews, critical analysis, and feature coverage of essential mainstream, art-house, and avant-garde filmmaking with a sharp focus on Nigerian and African cinema, Cheesemonger is encouraging Nigerian students who have completed their final–year projects to submit them for online publication.  Nigerian students can submit their academic essays that discuss important political, gender,  religious, and societal issues about Nollywood films and industry.
